Shippagan, New Brunswick
The Town of Shippagan today celebrated the completion of the last phase of its waterfront tourism infrastructure project with the official opening of the Rivage walking trail and boardwalk
"Our government is committed to helping communities build on local economic strengths," said the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway. "With the completion of the New Brunswick trail system in the Shippagan area, residents and visitors can safely walk from one attraction to the other and admire the scenic view of the harbour from the boardwalk."
For Minister Ashfield, today's celebration marks the start of a four-day innovation tour through northern New Brunswick highlighting innovative companies and organizations that are helping this region's economic growth.
The Rivage trail follows the shore of Shippagan harbour between Pointe-Brûlée Street and the New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre. It complements the tourism infrastructure currently in place, potentially extending the stay of visitors to the area. The project was an integral part of the Town's tourism strategy and will help increase the competitiveness of the tourism industry in the Acadian Peninsula.
"The Town of Shippagan is very proud to inaugurate the Rivage trail in the presence of the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of ACOA. The more than 2 km trail on the shore of our beautiful municipality is an asset for the well-being of our residents and a definite attraction for all visitors. We are very pleased with the Government of Canada investment in this important municipal project."
The Government of Canada, through ACOA's Innovative Communities Fund, invested more than $570,000 in this project.
