OTTAWA– The Canadian Forces (CF) today released statistics on individuals captured by the CF in Afghanistan between 2001 and 2008, and announced that this information will be released on an annual basis, once per calendar year, after being held for a period of twelve months.
Following a review of Afghanistan mission related activities and information management practices the Canadian Forces concluded that statistics pertaining to the number of individuals detained between 2001 and 2008 by the CF in Afghanistan no longer pose an immediate threat to current or recent operations.
The statistics being released today and on a yearly basis include number of persons detained, released by the CF, transferred and deceased.
