OTTAWA, ONTARIO, October 1, 2010 - I am pleased that the Canadian National (CN) Railway Company and Teamsters Canada Rail Conference have reached a tentative agreement. The tentative agreement is subject to ratification.
I have been in contact with both parties and congratulate them on their efforts in achieving a resolution. I also thank the mediators from the Government of Canada's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service for assisting them through their negotiations.
Our economy remains fragile and its stability depends on the productivity of industries, like CN. Our government supports strong labour-management relations that benefit our country's economic prosperity, the security of Canadians, and service to our communities.
CN is a transportation company that offers rail, intermodal, trucking, freight forwarding, warehousing and distribution services.
The Teamsters union represents 125,000 Canadians, over 16,000 of those members work in the rail industry and are represented by the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference.
