(No. 372 - November 23, 2010 - 2:30 p.m. ET) The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement after the latest round of talks held in Washington, D.C., on Manitoba-North Dakota water issues:
"I am pleased with the progress made at high-level talks yesterday in Washington, D.C., aimed at pursuing our efforts to resolve a range of water issues confronting the region for a number of years.
"These talks were a continuation of discussions that took place in October. The parties have committed to continuing their discussions over the coming months in the hope of finding a resolution to the issues in the near future.
"I would like to thank Canada's Ambassador to the United States Gary Doer for hosting the talks at the Canadian embassy. I would also like to thank North Dakota senators Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad, Governor and Senator-elect John Hoeven, Manitoba's Premier Greg Selinger and U.S. Ambassador to Canada David Jacobson for their participation and leadership on these issues."
