Tracadie-Sheila, New Brunswick
Local stakeholders and the Tracadie-Sheila business community will benefit from joint federal, provincial and municipal funding totaling close to $1.5 million to extend the town’s water and wastewater system. This project was announced today by the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, Premier David Alward and His Worship Aldéoda Losier, Mayor of Tracadie-Sheila. The project will result in improvements to the town’s industrial park water system.
“Our government is pleased to support the Town of Tracadie- Sheila with this valuable infrastructure project,” said Minister Ashfield. “Our investment supports an important extension of services at the community’s industrial park that will benefit the growth of firms located in the park, generate additional economic activity and supports local jobs.”
“Our investment in this strategic infrastructure project will provide opportunities for both current and future tenants of the industrial park in Tracadie-Sheila,” said Alward. “Our province will only be strong once all our regions, including the Acadian Peninsula, are strong.”
The project involves the extension of water and sewer services within the community’s industrial park, which currently accommodates 15 tenants. Improvements will include the extension of water and sewer lines, the construction of a sewage lift station, site preparation and the extension of an existing street within the industrial park.
"With this new infrastructure, the Town of Tracadie-Sheila will boost the vitality and prosperity of the regional economy. This will also help grow our community and assist our efforts to attract and retain young people in Tracadie- Sheila "said Mayor Losier.
The Governments of Canada and New Brunswick have each contributed $500,000 to the project, for a total investment of $1 million. The Town of Tracadie- Sheila is investing $494,000 in the initiative.
