VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA — The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today hosted a pre-budget roundtable consultation. He met with industry stakeholders whose operations are centred on Port Metro Vancouver, in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland, to discuss ways to create jobs and economic growth, and plans for the next phase of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“The economy remains our number one priority,” said Minister Strahl. “We will continue to focus on creating jobs for workers, retirement savings for seniors and the financial security of all Canadian families.”
Launched in 2009, the Economic Action Plan has so far contributed to the creation of more than 440,000 new jobs since July 2009 and helped the country emerge from the global economic crisis faster and stronger than most other major industrialized countries around the world.
Today’s meeting marks the first in a cross-country series of pre-budget roundtables to be held by Minister Strahl over the next few weeks. During the roundtables, Minister Strahl will hear from many of Canada’s leading transportation stakeholders on their views about how to improve the competitiveness of our economy and infrastructure, a key to Canadian growth and prosperity.
“Their ideas will be valuable as we move forward in developing initiatives that account for a wide range of interests that advance not only public- and private-sector economic development, but also the Canadian transportation system as a whole,” added Minister Strahl.
