Visitors to the picturesque South Shore of Nova Scotia will soon have access to a greater coastal experience, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada. The development of a new seaside park and rest stop will help ensure tourism in the region continues to grow.
"It's my pleasure to participate in today's announcement that underscores our government's commitment to the economic well-being of this area and reflects our focus on the Canadian economy as our top priority," said Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament for South Shore-St. Margaret's, on behalf of the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway. "Our investment in the United Communities Marine Park project will result in greater visitor access to the coastline and help boost tourism in the region."
The project involves the development of a seaside park and tourism rest stop in Vogler's Cove, located on Highway 331 between Liverpool and Bridgewater. The United Communities Marine Park, as it will be known, will allow for visitors and the community to enjoy this rural, coastal village where few opportunities and facilities currently exist. The scope of work includes a coastal look-off and festival platform; landscaping; signage; walkway lighting; benches, picnic tables and fire pit; and historic interpretive plaques.
"With this project, our municipality is seeking the opportunity to encourage visitors to come and stay in the area by providing the infrastructure that allows and encourages accessibility," said Don Downe, Mayor of the Municipality of Lunenburg.
This project will help improve public access to our coastline, support tourism and increase the opportunity for residents and visitors to experience the natural beauty and seaside activities available here on Nova Scotia's South Shore," said Norman Bagnald, Chair of the United Communities Marine Park Society.
The Government of Canada is investing $51,936 through ACOA's Innovative Communities Fund. In addition to the federal support, the project is receiving $28,000 from the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness, $28,500 from the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg and $3,000 from the United Communities Marine Park Society.
