RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA — The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today participated in a roundtable discussion with the Western Transportation Advisory Council (WESTAC) in Richmond, B.C.
"I am very pleased to join you in the discussions today," said Minister Strahl. "A strong and efficient transportation sector is critical to Canada's future economic growth. We can all help to achieve this through the collaborative efforts of governments at all levels and the private sector."
"WESTAC members thank Minister Strahl for this welcome opportunity to discuss ideas that strengthen Western Canada's transportation system," said WESTAC president Ruth Sol. "WESTAC's Framework for a National Transportation Policy highlights maximizing the capability of the transportation network and earning public support through socially responsible behaviour as key priorities underpinning the success of the industry."
The Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative, in which WESTAC has been a key player, aims to enhance collaborative action, and focuses on a wide range of policy and investment tools that will contribute to long-term sustainable economic growth.
WESTAC is a non-profit association dedicated to advancing Western Canada's economy though improvements in transportation. The council promotes transportation as a critical sector that supports trade, jobs and our high standard of living, and that advances solutions to transportation problems across sectors.
