OTTAWA, ONTARIO, February 15, 2011- I congratulate the Canadian Pacific Railway Company (CP) and the National Automobile, Aerospace, Transportation and General Workers Union of Canada (CAW-Canada), Local 101, for reaching a tentative agreement.
I appreciate the effort that both parties put into achieving this agreement. I also commend CP and CAW-Canada for their commitment to finding a negotiated solution to their differences.
This agreement was reached with the assistance of a mediator from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The collective agreement, covering a unit of about 2 200 employees, had expired on December 31, 2010.
Members of CAW-Canada, Local 101, will vote in the upcoming weeks on the ratification of this new agreement.
