Business Fredericton North Inc. has a new partner in its work to build a new recreational facility. The Government of Canada will provide support for this project that is encouraging ongoing economic activity on Fredericton's north side while building a legacy for community development. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway.
"As Canada emerges from the global recession, our Government is proud of the investments we have made, through Canada's Economic Action Plan, in community infrastructure projects that have supported employment and contributed to local economic activity at a difficult time," said Minister Ashfield. "The creation of a new Northside Fredericton recreational facility will help ensure that local residents continue to have access to a valuable community facility that will serve local residents for years to come."
Once the project is completed, the Nashwaaksis outdoor recreation facility will include ball hockey/basketball courts, picnic areas and a skateboard park during the summer months. In the winter months, the courts will convert to an outdoor skating surface for community residents to enjoy. The federal funding will help support the construction of each of these elements of the facility including the installation of refrigerated piping for the outdoor skating rink.

This project will provide year round recreational opportunities for youth, seniors and families not only for Fredericton North but Fredericton as a whole," said Mr. Kent Brewer, President of Business Fredericton North Inc. "This project brings a renewed life and revitalization to the area once again creating a recreation hub for the community. It is through partnerships and cooperation that this project has been made possible and we appreciate the investment in our community made by the Government of Canada."
The Government of Canada is investing $75,000 through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) Program, a key economic stimulus initiative under Canada's Economic Action Plan.
