A federal environmental assessment is no longer required under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act for the Municipality of Lac-au-Saumon Drinking Water Supply Upgrade Project in Quebec. In February 2011, the Municipality of Lac-au-Saumon (the proponent) submitted to Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) changes to the project description. More specifically, an addendum that integrates a series of additional mitigation measures, as well as monitoring of the hydraulic conditions during the spring flood period, was added to the project description.
After reviewing the proposed changes, Fisheries and Oceans Canada confirmed that no harmful alteration, disruption or destruction of fish habitat would occur if the work is done according to the new methods specified in the addendum to the project description and that the project could proceed without their authorization. Therefore, the Agency is terminating the federal environmental assessment of this project.
