Milton, Ontario, June 29, 2011 – Community Living North Halton officially opened the doors to its new home at 917 Nipissing Road today.
Numerous renovations were needed before staff could move in to the existing 24,000-square-foot building, including structural and electrical upgrades, new roofing and the addition of a wheelchair-accessible elevator. Now fully operational, the larger and more accessible facility will help Community Living North Halton expand support for children and adults with special needs in the rapidly expanding region.
“The improvements made to the Community Living North Halton facility will enable the organization to continue to provide important services for the fast-growing Town of Milton,” said the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Labour and Member of Parliament for Halton. “The Government of Canada is proud of its investment in this important community infrastructure project.”
“The Government of Ontario takes tremendous pride in this project, which is helping individuals with special needs enjoy life to the fullest,” said Kevin Flynn, Member of Provincial Parliament for Oakville, on behalf of the Honourable Bob Chiarelli, Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure. “I’m certain that Community Living’s new home here in Milton will help provide quality support and services to local families for years to come.”
“This grant has allowed Community Living North Halton to create an environment that will attract other community services as tenants and partners,” said Greg Edmiston, Executive Director of Community Living North Halton. “The training facilities are modern, bright and well equipped. The building is finished in a way that our staff, stakeholders and the people we support can be very proud of. We could not have made this happen without the support of the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund.”
The governments of Canada and Ontario each contributed $400,000 toward this project. Community Living North Halton contributed the balance of the total eligible project cost of $1,200,000.
Federal funding for this project comes from the Government of Canada’s $4-billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, which is supporting over 4,100 infrastructure projects across the country.
Over the last couple of months, Ontario had an increase of 38,000 jobs and the unemployment rate declined to 7.9 per cent.
