Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec, June 14, 2011 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced the awarding of $300,000 in repayable funding to Laiterie Charlevoix Inc. through the Community Economic Diversification Initiative – Vitality to optimize the dairy’s productivity by introducing new technology.
“Canada Economic Development feels that Laiterie Charlevoix’s productivity enhancement project has great potential. Laiterie Charlevoix is the first Quebec enterprise to incorporate this type of solution in its plant,” stated Minister Lebel.
Laiterie Charlevoix Inc. is innovating by acquiring a system that uses whey, a by-product of the cheese-making process, to generate some of the energy needed for production and to heat its plant. Thanks to this waste-to-energy system, the dairy will make substantial savings in various areas. As a result, Laiterie Charlevoix Inc. will be able to increase its production of fine cheeses in the years to come.
