OTTAWA—Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will conduct an official visit to Manitoba from June 16 to 18, 2011.
“As we continue on our journey across Canada, my wife, Sharon, and I are thrilled to be taking part in our first official visit to Manitoba, a province filled with rich diversity, culture, pride and a strong collaborative spirit,” the Governor General said. “We look forward to meeting with community members who have given their time and energy to improve their communities. We are also looking forward to meeting with Manitoba’s Francophone community and learning about their influence on the province’s history. Our thoughts are also with all Manitobans and first responders as the province braces for further flooding.”
As part of their official duties, Their Excellencies will meet with the Lieutenant Governor and the Premier of Manitoba, as well as the Mayor of Winnipeg and other government officials. As commander-in-chief of Canada, His Excellency will also meet with members of 17 Wing Winnipeg and learn about the work of the men and women who devote their efforts to humanitarian and domestic work in times of emergency.
In addition to attending official functions and events, Their Excellencies will have the opportunity to meet with the many people who have demonstrated great leadership and have given time and energy to their community. Their Excellencies will also meet with members of Manitoba’s Francophone community, as well as learn about a number of cultural, educational and philanthropic initiatives taking place in the province.
