Listowel, Ontario, June 4, 2011 – Federal, provincial and municipal representatives came together today to celebrate recently completed renovations to the North Perth Administration Building.

(The building was originally built in 1968.)
Housing the Mayor’s Office, council chambers, municipal administration staff, the local OPP detachment, provincial court services and the local fire department, the preexisting facility, originally built in 1968, was filled beyond capacity. Thanks to the fall 2010 relocation of the fire department and the reconfiguration of building space, the renovated facility now easily accommodates all staff and visitors. Other facility improvements include increased parking, new electrical wiring, new heating and cooling technology, replaced siding, and a new roof. Thanks to these upgrades, the building is now a safer, more accessible and more efficient place for staff and community members to do business.
“The improvements made to the North Perth Administrative Building are a positive step in the right direction,” said Gary Schellenberger, Member of Parliament for Perth—Wellington, on behalf of Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. “The Government of Canada is proud to be working with municipalities to invest in infrastructure that benefits the every day lives of Canadians by streamlining municipal services and prolonging the life of important facilities.”
“The infrastructure investments we’re making through our Open Ontario Plan are helping us build stronger, more prosperous communities throughout our province,” said John Wilkinson, MPP for Perth—Wellington. “The Ontario government is proud to be a part of this project. Here in Listowel, this modern administration building will offer quality services for the families of North Perth for many years to come.”
“North Perth gratefully acknowledges the support of the federal and provincial governments for their assistance in providing funding for this project. The result of the major renovation that has taken place is a more efficient and effective use of space for servicing the public and accommodating staff,” said Julie Behrns, Mayor of North Perth.
Through the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, the governments of Canada and Ontario each contributed up to $1.2 million toward this project, which involved constructing a new fire station and renovating the existing administration building. The Municipality of North Perth contributed the balance of the total eligible project cost of $3.6 million.
As part of the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the $4-billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund is providing funding to over 4,100 infrastructure projects across the country, and is delivered by Infrastructure Canada.
Since employment turned the corner in May 2009, Ontario has created nearly 300,000 jobs. This means Ontario has recovered all of the jobs lost during the recession. Ontario's stimulus investments contributed to this job recovery.
