BG–11.015 - August 11, 2011
Constructing new defence infrastructure is in line with the Canada First Defence Strategy, which sets a detailed road map for the modernization of the Canadian Forces. New infrastructure will help replace dated defence infrastructure and support a first-class, modern military that is ready to take on the challenges of the 21st century.
This project consists of the construction of two new 6 133 m2 single-story kitchen and dining facilities which will replace the existing Junior Ranks dining halls, the Officers’ Mess, and Senior NCO Mess currently being used at CFB Borden by over 3 000 military personnel daily. Both new facilities will also see the construction of new parking lots with over 350 spaces. Each facility will be able to feed approximately 1 500 persons per meal, and will be located on the north and south sides of the base.
This infrastructure project is part of the greater CFB Borden Master Real Property Development Plan which aims to consolidate all training and quarters functions into two separate areas. The two new kitchen and dining facilities will address existing deficiencies found at the current facilities, some of which are over 50 years old and have been required to serve more personnel than they were originally designed for.
The Department of National Defence is aiming to complete construction of both All Ranks Dining and Kitchen facilities by May 2014.
Overall project value (including taxes): approximately $77.1 million.
