Thank you. It's a pleasure to be here today. I want to thank Chief Weasel Head and all of you for the warm welcome, and for your kind invitation to join you in marking this great occasion.
On behalf of the Honourable John Duncan, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, I am very pleased to be with all of you today for the official opening of Blood Tribe Housing Building Systems.
Today, we are celebrating the results of hard work, perseverance, and above all, innovation. This impressive facility is a strong example of how the Blood Tribe is creating economic and employment opportunities in this community.
The creation of BTH Building Systems opens doors to partnerships that can empower your community to build upon its manufacturing base and strengthen the local economy. We believe that the key to ensuring sustainable economic development is through working in partnerships. That's why the Federal Framework for Aboriginal Economic Development identifies forging new and effective partnerships as a key priority in supporting Aboriginal economic development.
Already, you've been doing tremendous work. I understand that since March the factory has been up and running with its full workforce in place and that you have an order for 25 homes. You are well on your way to building quality houses for a demanding housing market.
Improving economic opportunities is a priority for our Government. The Federal Framework aims to support economic growth by: focusing the role of the federal government, fostering partnerships, strengthening Aboriginal entrepreneurship, developing Aboriginal human capital, and enhancing the value of Aboriginal assets. Increasing participation in the Canadian economy is the most effective way to improve the well-being and quality of life of First Nations in Canada.
It is projects like this one that are fundamental to the economic vitality of First Nation communities. They create opportunities for First Nation communities to thrive now and in the future.
Once again, Blood Tribe members have come together to do what it takes to develop and enhance this nation. I am very excited to see what you all have planned for the not so distant future.
I want to congratulate Chief and Council, band employees, planners and everyone who worked so hard to make this project a reality. You have created a lasting legacy.
Thank you.
