Visitors traveling the southern portion of the Trans Labrador Highway will have access to an improved tourist experience as a result of an investment of $366,000 by the Government of Canada in the development of a series of interpretive sites.
The Honourable Peter Penashue, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the Queens Privy Council, made the funding announcement today in Red Bay on behalf of the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and La Francophonie.
"Tourism in Labrador is an area of great potential growth and this project will better showcase some of the great tourism options along the Labrador Coastal Drive," said Minister Penashue. "The project will add to the area’s existing tourism infrastructure and provide communities with the opportunity to continue to build the local tourism industry through enhanced visitor experiences."
The Southeastern Aurora Development Corporation is developing priority locations along the Labrador Coastal Drive between Lodge Bay and Paradise River with the help of $366,000 in ACOA funding. The project includes the development of four interpretative sites that highlight the cultural, natural and historical development of the region. The interpretive sites located near Paradise River, Alexis River, Lodge Bay and St. Lewis Inlet will enable visitors to rest and have access to interpretation and direction about the region and what it has to offer tourists.
The Government of Canada’s investment in this project is provided through ACOA's Innovative Communities Fund (ICF) which focuses on investments that lead to long-term employment and economic capacity building in rural communities.
