Updated facility will help to keep Toronto and York safe
Toronto, Ontario, October 28, 2011 – Toronto Police #11 Division is benefitting from a bigger and better building, thanks to a partnership between the Government of Canada and the City of Toronto. The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Bernard Trottier, Member of Parliament for Etobicoke-Lakeshore, Cesar Palacio, Toronto City Councillor, Ward 17–Davenport, on behalf of His Worship Rob Ford, Mayor of the City of Toronto, Toronto Police Chief William Blair, and representatives of the Police Services Board gathered today to celebrate the completion of the newly renovated facility.
The new space for Toronto Police #11 Division was built on the site of a 1918 heritage building and includes a partial restoration of its structure, including the preservation of heritage features wherever possible. Thanks to its modern design, this new station improves the health and safety of police staff, provides for a better working environment, and is the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver accredited police division in Toronto. This improved facility will assist Toronto Police #11 Division in delivering exceptional services and continuing to help keep residents of Toronto and York safe.

"Our Government is very proud to have contributed to the construction of this new facility, which not only helped to create jobs for people in this region, but will continue to assist men and women in law enforcement to do their jobs. This is great news for the Toronto Police service and for residents."

said City of Toronto Councillor Palacio on behalf of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford.

said Toronto Police Chief William Blair.
The Government of Canada is contributing about $9.69 million toward the eligible project costs for Toronto Police #11 Division's new facility. The City of Toronto is contributing the balance of the $29.07 million cost.
Federal funding for this project comes from the Government of Canada's Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, which has resulted in about 4,000 infrastructure projects across the country.
