Ottawa, Ontario, December 12, 2011 – Federal and provincial representatives joined Patro d'Ottawa board members, staff and volunteers today to celebrate recent renovations to the Patro d'Ottawa francophone community centre.
Patro clients, members and Lowertown residents will benefit from the now modern, accessible and energy efficient building. Renovations included improvements to the main entrance, classrooms, meeting rooms, multi-purpose rooms, and the gymnasium. In addition, the roofing, windows, electrical and plumbing fixtures were upgraded to comply with building code requirements.
"Our government is proud to invest in Patro d'Ottawa – an important part of the Lowertown community for many years,"
said Royal Galipeau, Member of Parliament for Ottawa—Orléans, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. "Thanks to Canada's Economic Action Plan, Patro d'Ottawa will continue to improve the quality of life of this community and make it a great place to live."
"Our government is making targeted infrastructure investments to strengthen communities, stimulate the economy and create jobs and opportunities for Ontario families,"
said Madeleine Meilleur, Member of Provincial Parliament for Ottawa-Vanier. "The renovations to this community facility created up to 50 construction jobs and will help Ottawa's francophones lead healthy, prosperous lives for years to come."
"This major investment will ensure the durability of our building for the next 20 years"
, said Raymond Galipeau, Chair of Patro d'Ottawa. "We are very thankful of this."
The governments of Canada and Ontario are contributing one-third of total eligible project costs, up to a maximum of $405,667 each. Patro d'Ottawa has contributed the balance of the total eligible project cost of $1,217,000.
Federal support for this project comes from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, part of Canada's Economic Action Plan. Working to create jobs, boost the economy and deliver results for communities, Canada's Economic Action Plan supported over 28,500 projects across the country.
This project supports Building Together, Ontario's long-term infrastructure plan to repair, rebuild and renew the province's roads and highways, bridges, public transit, schools and postsecondary institutions, hospitals and courthouses. Since 2003, the Government of Ontario has created and supported 600,000 jobs and invested $62 billion in infrastructure. Through Building Together, Ontario will continue to make significant investments in public infrastructure, starting with an investment of more than $35 billion over the next three years.
