Winston Fillatre has twenty years of experience with northern fisheries and wildlife resource management issues, working for and with a wide array of organizations, including provincial and federal government agencies, Aboriginal communities, as well as the mining industry.
For the past two years, Mr. Fillatre worked as Project Coordinator with the Geotechnical Drill Program of Seabridge Gold, out of northwest British Columbia, in the areas of Environment Compliance and Health Safety Environment. From 2007-2008, he was the Senior Environmental Advisor for the Galore Creek Mining Corporation in British Columbia. Prior to that, he was the Environmental Advisor to BHP Billiton Diamonds, Inc., in the Northwest Territories.
Before working in the private industry, Mr. Fillatre worked for Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) for over a decade, first as a Fisheries Officer and then as Chief of Conservation and Enforcement. Mr. Fillatre developed a strong understanding of Northern wildlife issues during his tenure with DFO, as he worked in DFO offices across the North, including Nunavut, Yukon and Northwest Territories. Prior to this work with the federal government, he worked with the Government of Northwest Territories as a Wildlife Officer stationed in Pangnirtung, Nunavut, and Inuvik, Northwest Territories.
Mr. Fillatre has gained extensive experience and knowledge of Canadian provincial and federal environmental legislation, working with northern Aboriginal communities, surface mining compliance inspections, and working with the mining industry on licensing and permits, all relevant experience to the work of the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board.
