The Harper Government is committed to establishing strategic partnerships around the globe that will generate economic benefits and knowledge in the energy sector.
To this end, on May 14, 2012, Canada and Poland issued a Joint Statement on Energy Cooperation following a meeting in Ottawa between Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Prime Minister Donald Tusk of Poland. The statement sets the stage for further co-operation between the two countries in commercial gas development, energy security, and environmental sustainability.
Canada and Poland already enjoy solid relations in the energy sector. The Joint Statement sets the stage for increased energy-related trade and investment between two countries. It also provides a platform for the two countries to explore further collaboration in the areas of energy policies and regulations, renewable and nuclear energy, carbon capture and storage, energy efficiency, and shale gas development.
Energy dialogue between the two countries will continue both on a bilateral basis and through international organizations such as the International Energy Agency.
In 2011, Canadian energy exports to Poland stood at $1.1 million while imports from Poland stood at $14.7 million.
