Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement on MP Lee Richardson’s departure from Parliament:
“On behalf of the entire Conservative caucus, I would like to thank Lee Richardson for his hard work and dedication in representing the constituents of Calgary Centre in the Parliament of Canada. Lee has been a strong advocate for Alberta and a valued voice within our caucus.
“Lee’s roots on Parliament Hill run deep, having served as Executive Assistant to Prime Minister John Diefenbaker and Deputy Chief of Staff to former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. First elected in 1988 to represent the riding of Calgary South East and then again in 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2011, Lee has brought his expertise to a number of roles, including as chair of several standing committees, most recently the Standing Committee on International Trade. We will miss Lee’s wisdom and insight as we look to open new markets for Canadian goods.
“A proud Calgarian, Lee’s commitment to his city has been clearly demonstrated through his work with the Calgary Stampede, Calgary Homeless Foundation and other charitable groups.
“On behalf of and together with all his other friends and colleagues, Laureen and I would like to extend our personal best wishes to Lee in his new position as Principal Secretary to Alison Redford, Premier of Alberta.”
