OTTAWA, July 6, 2012 — The Honourable Vic Toews, Public Safety Minister, today released his decision regarding the request by Mr. Yves LeBon, under the International Transfer of Offenders Act (ITOA), to serve his remaining sentence in Canada.
The Minister has reconsidered this matter pursuant to a decision of the Federal Court of Appeal in Lebon v. Canada (Attorney General) on April 27, 2012. For reasons outlined in the decision, the Minister has not approved the transfer.
The Minister of Public Safety is responsible for the administration of the International Transfer of Offenders Act.
