Dolbeau-Mistassini, Quebec, July 20, 2012 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Serge Simard, Minister for Natural Resources and Wildlife and Minister responsible for the region of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, on behalf of Laurent Lessard, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy, and Georges Simard, Mayor of the City of Dolbeau-Mistassini, today joined the residents of Dolbeau-Mistassini to celebrate the completion of expansion work on the Vauvert-sur-le-lac-Saint-Jean recreational tourism site.

The project involved increasing accommodations capacity by adding 3 double cabins and constructing a campground with 75 sites for RVs that are serviced with water, sewage disposal and electricity, 10 sites for tents, and 8 ready-to-camp sites. This project also included the construction of a footbridge, linking the campground to the beach and an existing recreation centre, and adding a service and welcome building, washrooms, showers and a Laundromat. The construction of recreational areas completes the project.
The governments of Canada and Quebec committed close to $1.7 million each towards the total eligible costs of this project under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund of $4,550,379. The City of Dolbeau-Mistassini invested close to $1.1 million in this project.
In addition, the Government of Quebec and the City of Dolbeau-Mistassini provided $515,800 each under the provincial Programme d'infrastructures Québec-municipalités (PIQM) for the installation of a well and water treatment system to provide clean water to the campsites at the Vauvert-sur-le-lac-Saint-Jean recreational tourism site.
As part of the Government of Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund supported more than 4,000 infrastructure projects across the country. Together, the Government of Canada and Province of Quebec committed close to $936 million towards 938 projects under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund across the Province of Quebec.
Investing in infrastructure is a key part of the Government of Canada's plan for jobs, growth and long-term prosperity. Over the course of the summer, the Government of Canada is meeting with provinces, territories, municipalities through municipal associations and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, as well as other key stakeholders in a series of roundtables to develop a new long-term infrastructure plan. This plan will focus on investments that support job creation and economic growth, while building strong, prosperous communities across the country. In addition, the Government of Canada will hold a roundtable with national stakeholders and private sector representatives at the end of the summer. Working together to develop this plan will provide new opportunities for all orders of government and the private sector to build partnerships to improve public infrastructure in Canada.
The Government of Quebec's contribution comes from the Plan québécois des infrastructures, which now has a budget of over $44.18 billion for the period of 2011 to 2016, of which $2.7 billion to maintain and upgrade or renew Quebec's municipal infrastructure.
