Riverton residents today celebrated the completion of a newly expanded lagoon, a project that addressed both immediate and long-term needs of the area by upgrading the existing facility and expanding its capacity.
Member of Parliament for Selkirk-Interlake, James Bezan, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification (WD), joined Riverton Mayor Colin Bjarnason, their friends, neighbours and constituents at this important community event.
“Our Government understands that investing in infrastructure is critical to growing strong communities, fostering economic development and improving the quality of life for Canadians,” said MP Bezan. “The expansion and upgrade of Riverton’s lagoon will have a long-term, positive impact on this community, and is an example of our commitment to building a better Canada.”
Funding for the project was provided by the Government of Canada, the Province of Manitoba and the Village of Riverton with a combined investment of $787,000 under the Building Canada Fund–Communities Component (BCF-CC) program.
Under the BCF-CC, the Government of Canada has invested in important projects across the West with matching contributions from the western provinces. Residents across Manitoba are now enjoying the benefits of this significant investment to the province’s public infrastructure.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating, small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
