Keephills, Alberta
Today, the Honourable Rob Merrifield, Member of Parliament for Yellowhead, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced $9,765 in federal funding towards renovating the Keephills Public Library under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“Your Government, through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, is continuing to support communities across Canada,
” said Hon. Rob Merrifield, Member of Parliament for Yellowhead. “By improving facilities such as the Keephills Public Library, we are creating jobs locally while providing residents with enhanced access to library resources and services.
”
Library users can look forward to a modernized learning space, including a new circulation desk, computer workstations, interior upgrades, and a new outdoor sign. These improvements will enable the Parkland County Library Board to further promote culture, arts and literacy, while enhancing learning and skills development opportunities for residents in the community and surrounding areas.
“We are extremely grateful to have been approved for this funding to support improvements at the Keephills Public Library,
” said Kathy Conn, Parkland County Library Board Library Manager. “The Parkland County Library Board and staff at Keephills Library are delighted to welcome visitors and residents to a new and modernized space. Libraries are changing to become community spaces for everyone to experience and enjoy, and these renovations will certainly further this fact for the Keephills community.
”
CIIFsupports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
