Carberry, Manitoba. Today, Merv Tweed, Member of Parliament for Brandon—Souris, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding under the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF) to help refurbish the Carberry Plains Museum.
"I am proud of our Government’s investment which will contribute to the growth and prosperity of Carberry and the surrounding area,
" said MP Tweed. "The Carberry Plains Museum is a unique local attraction, and the improvements made to the facility will help to showcase local history and attract visitors to the region.
"
Funding of $3,798 will go towards repairing the roof and loose bricks on the parapet walls. In addition to enhancing the building’s exterior, the refurbishing work will provide a more secure environment for the museum’s extensive aircraft and decade-specific collections.
"The Museum Board and the Town of Carberry are thankful for the funding provided by the Government of Canada,
" said Marj Campbell, Museum Board Member and Councillor for the Town of Carberry. "As a result, we are able to expedite the repairs and prevent damage to the facility which otherwise would have been inevitable.
"
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating, small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
