Today, Mark Strahl, Member of Parliament for Chilliwack – Fraser Canyon, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for the Chilliwack Heritage Park under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“I am proud to see Chilliwack benefit from our Government’s investment in local infrastructure,” said MP Strahl. “This investment will help create jobs and growth, and will support the prosperity of the community for years to come.”
Funding of $16,691 will help Tourism Chilliwack improve the Chilliwack Heritage Park by upgrading the ventilation and airflow system by installing high volume roof fans and louver venting, as well as replacing one of the facility’s windows.
“Heritage Park is the centrepiece of community and commercial events for the City of Chilliwack and the federal contribution toward upgrading the ventilation and air flow systems will open new opportunities. This funding will also enhance the quality of air, providing an improved environment for our staff, clients and the folks who attend the numerous functions each year,” stated Brian Minter, Chair of the Heritage Park Committee and Past Board Chair of Tourism Chilliwack. “We wish to thank Mark Strahl, our Member of Parliament, the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification and the Harper Government for this important support.”
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
