Lashburn, Saskatchewan
Today, Member of Parliament for Battlefords-Lloydminster and Minister of Agriculture Gerry Ritz, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for upgrades to several Lashburn community facilities under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities," said Minister Ritz. "This investment will provide much needed upgrades to the Lashburn library and museum, boosting local economic activity and ensuring this facility is enjoyed for years to come."
Federal funding of $24,400 will help the community upgrade Lashburn’s library, museum and outdoor lace-up shack. The work will include roof repairs and the installation of new windows and doors at the library. The museum will have its stairs replaced and new ramps installed. Finally, the lace-up shack at the outdoor rink will be upgraded.
"The community of Lashburn is very appreciative of the support from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund," said Steven Turnbull, Mayor of Lashburn. "Our community library, museum and outdoor rink are in need of repairs. The facilities provide a service to all the citizens of Lashburn and surrounding area. Programs like CIIF are very beneficial for small towns because they help the council to budget fixing facilities at a faster pace than would normally happen."
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
