Today, Robert Sopuck, Member of Parliament for Dauphin-Swan River-Marquette, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for improvements to Neepawa’s community infrastructure under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government, through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, is continuing to support communities across Canada,
" said MP Sopuck. "By improving amenities such as this, we are helping to boost economic activity and maintain a higher quality of life for Canadians.
"
MP Sopuck announced $42,156 in federal funding towards three new projects ensuring the long-term viability of various important community and recreation facilities. First, the Town of Neepawa will resurface and upgrade the community tennis courts, thereby promoting active living and wellness. Second, the Neepawa Public Library will replace carpeting, improving safety and quality of the facility. And third, the Neepawa Airport will upgrade runway lighting to improve safety for airport users.
"I am very pleased that the Government of Canada, through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund is helping us reach our goal of being a growing and sustainable community,
" said Ken Waddell, Mayor of Neepawa. "We have had a large increase in population in the past few years and both our long-term residents and newcomers to Neepawa will benefit from this investment.
"
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating, small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
