Today, Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament for Souris-Moose Mountain, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for upgrades to the Pangman swimming pool under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“I am proud to see Pangman benefit from our Government’s investment in community facilities,
” said MP Komarnicki. “This investment will help create jobs and growth, and will support the prosperity of the community for years to come.
”
Federal funding of $6,017 will help to create local jobs and go towards installing a Modular Media Filter System. The new filter system will help reduce operating costs at the pool by between 10 and 40 per cent as it will reduce chemical and water usage and the amount of maintenance needed.
“Our pool here in Pangman relies mostly on community fundraising and grants,
” said Pangman Mayor Rod Rowland. “Our children and families in our community are important, that is why we work so hard to keep our pool operating. It is a very busy place in the summer with public swims, lessons, private rentals, school and daycare swims, and aquacize. It is an essential service we offer to our community.
”
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
