Today, Candice Bergen, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety and Member of Parliament for Portage-Lisgar, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding to support improvements to Treherne’s Community Centre under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in communities across Canada,
” said MP Bergen. “By contributing to projects such as this, we are building on the foundation that is the fabric of community life across this great country.
”
With $13,300 in federal funding, the Town of Treherne will renovate the washrooms and upgrade energy efficiency at its community centre, which is used for many social events and community milestones, such as graduations and weddings. The project will ensure this community centre can continue to bring the people of Treherne and the surrounding communities together.
“Residents of the Town of Treherne are extremely grateful to have been approved for this CIIF investment to support much needed upgrades and improvements to the Treherne Community Centre
”, said James Knockaert, Mayor of Treherne. “As they come together to socialize and enjoy sporting events, visitors and residents will be welcomed to the new, well-lit, modernized space in the hall and skating rink.
”
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating, small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
