Carrick, Manitoba – Today, the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety and Member of Parliament for Provencher, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for renovations to the Carrick Community Club under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government, through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, is continuing to support communities across Canada,
" said Minister Toews. "The Carrick Community Club is central to the community and the surrounding area. I am confident that these improvements will ensure that community functions will be hosted there for years to come.
"
Under the project, the Carrick Community Club will renovate the facility with federal funding of $6,700. Work includes improving lighting, replacing flooring, renovating the Green Room, improving the plumbing in the canteen, and installing new cupboards in the kitchen.
"Carrick is a small, but vibrant community and the Community Club plays host to activities for people from everywhere in the surrounding area,
" said Jim Danilchuk, President, Carrick Community Club. "We would like to thank Western Economic Diversification Canada. With these funds we will take another step toward making the Carrick Community Club a first class facility.
"
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating, small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
