Spruce Grove, Alberta – Today, the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, Minister for Status of Women, and Member of Parliament for Edmonton-Spruce Grove, announced federal funding for upgrades to the Spruce Grove Public Library under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities,
” said Minister Ambrose. “By improving facilities such as the Spruce Grove Public Library, we are helping to boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians.
”
Federal funding of $37,825 will help the Spruce Grove Public Library make upgrades to its circulation desk, shelving, and computer stations. These renovations will improve the Library’s existing layout and create opportunities to expand popular collections.
“Libraries grow with their communities, and Spruce Grove’s population has increased remarkably within the last five years. The funding we will receive from the federal government allows us to not only provide the materials and resources that our community needs but to also be the social space that our community wants,
” said Lindsey Bignell, Bibliographic Services Manager and Project Lead for the Spruce Grove Public Library. “By using our space wisely, and choosing shelving that is both effective and easy to browse, we can meet our community’s demand. We could not have accomplished this without the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund.
”
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
