Stonewall, Manitoba – Today, James Bezan, Member of Parliament for Selkirk—Interlake, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding under the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF) to the Town of Stonewall for upgrades to the South Interlake Regional Library.
“I am proud of our Government’s investment in the South Interlake Regional Library,” said MP Bezan. “By helping to improve facilities such as this, we are doing our part to ensure that communities across our country can grow, prosper, and remain strong for generations to come.

The federal funding of $3,625 will go towards renovations to the library which will include improving the circulation desk to make it more ergonomic, expanding the permanent work stations to make them larger, and adding electrical outlets. This investment will enhance the working environment for library staff, improve accessibility, and allow for better service to the public.
“The Town of Stonewall is very excited to receive this funding which will allow the library to meet the accessibility and technological demands of the library today,
” said Mayor Ross Thompson. “It will improve access to our patrons of all ages and physical ability, improve current work flow demands and ensure continued efficient access to its resources. We look forward to working with the Federal Government and the other organizations involved.

CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating, small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets.
