Across the country, community centres, cultural centres, hockey rinks, swimming pools, and other community projects will soon be improved thanks to support from the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
As part of the Government's Economic Action Plan 2012, Member of Parliament for Battlefords-Lloydminster and Minister of Agriculture Gerry Ritz, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for upgrades to the Glaslyn arena under the Fund.
Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities,
" said Minister Ritz. "By improving facilities such as Glaslyn's arena, we are boosting economic activity and ensuring that this facility is enjoyed by the community for years to come.
The Harper Government's investment of $40,150 will go towards the reinforcement of the overhead support beams in the rink with steel, as well as upgrades to other interior structural components. These improvements will make the multi-season rink safer and increase its longevity.
The Village of Glaslyn is very excited to be receiving this funding,
" said Glaslyn Mayor Ken Morrison."Being able to do these structural repairs will extend the life of the arena well into the future ensuring recreation for years to come. The arena is a vital part of our small community.
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
