The Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) is investing $350,000 in the development of an Economic Opportunities Toolkit and outreach campaign that will promote emerging northern economic opportunities in francophone markets. The Conseil de développement économique des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (CDETNO) will highlight opportunities in mining, oil and gas, and tourism to potential investors in Québec and France.
As well as providing valuable information to potential workers and investors, CDETNO will address information, translation, and facilitation gaps to attract new investment to the Northwest Territories (NWT). This work will include:
- hosting outreach events in Québec and France to attract potential investors to the NWT mining sector;
- promoting NWT economic opportunities at trade shows;
- studying the potential for bilingual business travel to the NWT;
- enhancing professional business services for the francophone community;
- developing the skills and competencies of the francophone community in the NWT to support key sectors of the NWT economy.
This investment is made possible through CanNor's Strategic Investments in Northern Economic Development (SINED) Program. SINED is one of several economic development programs within CanNor. CanNor delivers on its exclusive northern mandate through funding programs, providing project management services, leveraging the federal role in the North, serving as a champion for northern interests, and undertaking policy and research.
