Longueuil, Quebec, February 28, 2013 – The second SpaceX Dragon mission to the International Space Station (ISS) is scheduled to launch Friday, March 1 at 10:10 a.m. It will be carrying Microflow, a Canadian toaster-size device used for a range of bioanalysis and clinical diagnoses.
Canadarm2 will be used to catch the free-flying Dragon capsule and berth it to the space station on Saturday, March 2.
If you've dreamed of being an astronaut at the controls of Canadarm2, the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) has launched a new Canadarm2 game on its Website. Players must install a module to the ISS and relocate an astronaut standing at the tip of the arm.
Coverage of the SpaceX launch and the following day's robotics operations will begin at 8:30 a.m. EST on March 1 on NASA TV and on the CSA Website.
The mission will mark the third trip by a commercial Dragon capsule to resupply the ISS. The Dragon capsule will be filled with more than half a ton of scientific experiments and cargo including Canada's Microflow, a miniaturized version of a new technology that could provide rapid biological sample analysis to test for everything from infections to cancer markers on space missions far from medical facilities, as well as in remote communities on Earth.
