Calgary, Alberta – Today, Joan Crockatt, Member of Parliament for Calgary Centre, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the Eau Claire YMCAunder the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"The Eau Claire YMCA offers a wide range of recreational programs to help build healthy communities here in Calgary," said MP Crockatt. "Families and communities across the province will benefit from projects like this, which will also boost economic activity, as well as leave a lasting legacy of modernized community facilities for future generations."
The Harper Government's investment of $59,234 will support the replacement of the automation system in the Eau Claire YMCA, which controls the heating, ventilation and air conditioning of the building, as well as its lighting, pool systems and security. This upgrade will increase the operating efficiency of the YMCA while extending the life-span of this valued recreational facility.
"We really appreciate how the Federal Government is supporting infrastructure needs in our YMCA. Health and Wellness is important to Canadians and this kind of support ensures we can continuously improve our facilities," said Helene Weir, President and CEO of YMCACalgary.
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets.
