Canmore, Alberta – Today, Blake Richards, Member of Parliament for Wild Rose, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the Canmore Community Daycare under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"The Daycare offers quality programs and services for approximately 160 children in the Canmore community," said MP Richards. "By supporting projects like this, we are creating meaningful spaces for current and future generations of children to play, learn and grow while supporting jobs creation and economic growth."
The Harper Government's investment of $174,710 will enable the Canmore Community Daycare Society to acquire and install new play equipment, as well as upgrade the playground's play surface. These improvements will help modernize the facility, while creating a safe and accessible recreational environment for children of all ages.
"The Organization and our partners worked diligently to build a new community child care facility that opened in April of 2012," said Cherri Hodgins, Executive Director of the Canmore Community Daycare Society. "This additional CIIF funding will support the development of safe, fun outdoor spaces that will be utilized by Canmore children for generations to come. We are grateful to Canada's Economic Action Plan 2012 for this funding which will help us to provide enhanced, quality childcare for our community."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
