Cardston, Alberta – Today, Jim Hillyer, Member of Parliament for Lethbridge, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for upgrades to the Cardston Public Swimming Pool under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in communities across Canada,
” said MP Hillyer. “By making these investments in local infrastructure, like the Cardston Public Swimming Pool, we are helping boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians.
”
The Harper Government’s investment of $248,252 will support necessary upgrades to the Cardston Public Swimming Pool’s mechanical systems. The installation of an accessible piping crawl space will also facilitate future repair work. These improvements will reduce the Pool’s maintenance costs and ensure that community members have access to this valuable recreational facility for years to come.
“The Town of Cardston is most grateful for the financial support of the federal government towards our swimming pool renovations,
” said his Worship Rick Schow, Mayor of the Town of Cardston. “This funding allows us as a small municipality to continue to provide fun and safe recreational facilities for members of our community and the surrounding area.
”
“Cardston County is pleased to be a partner and financial contributor for the Town of Cardston pool renovation,
” said Lloyd Kearl, Reeve for Cardston County. “The County also acknowledges the CIIF program for the financial contribution to this project. This is an example of the great infrastructure improvements that can be made when our local and federal governments work together.
”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
