Clairmont, Alberta – Today, Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament for Peace River, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support towards two infrastructure projects in the County of Grande Prairie under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“I am proud to see the County of Grande Prairie benefit from our Government’s investments in community infrastructure,” said MP Warkentin. “Improvements to these facilities are helping boost local economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for residents.”
The Harper Government’s investment of $46,935 will enhance the Pipestone Creek Campground water and sewer systems. These improvements will ensure campers have access to quality water sources while enjoying Pipestone Creek’s natural spaces.
“The County of Grande Prairie is pleased with the federal government recognizing the value in investing in communities and truly appreciates receiving assistance from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,” said Leanne Beaupre, County of Grande Prairie Reeve. “This support will be used to make important upgrades to essential infrastructure at Pipestone Creek Campground in order to better serve our residents and visitors of the region.”
In addition, a federal investment of $26,010 will support renovations to the Teepee Creek Fire Hall, including the addition of administrative facilities and upgrades to the building’s plumbing and electrical systems. These improvements will extend the life span of the facility and ensure members of the Fire Department can continue to serve the rural community of Teepee Creek for years to come.
“The County of Grande Prairie is also pleased to receive support from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund for important renovations to one of our fire halls,” said Dan Verdun, County of Grande Prairie Deputy Fire Chief of Rural Operations. “These funds will be used to renovate the Teepee Creek Fire Hall which will aid our group of dedicated firefighters in providing the best in service delivery.”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
