Sherwood Park, Alberta – Today, the Honourable Tim Uppal, Minister of State for Democratic Reform and Member of Parliament for Edmonton—Sherwood Park, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for upgrades to the Robin Hood Learning Centre in Sherwood Park under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities across Canada," said Minister Uppal. "By making this investment in the Robin Hood Learning Centre, we are ensuring that it can continue to meet the needs of its clients and other community members for years to come."
The Harper Government's investment of $52,207 will support upgrades to the Robin Hood Learning Centre, which has offered educational programs for the disabled and hosted community events since 1997. Improvements will include the replacement of flooring and installation of stage curtains.
"The Robin Hood Association is grateful for the financial assistance provided by the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund," said Ed Riediger, Chief Executive Officer of the Robin Hood Association. "Raising funds from the community for infrastructure projects is a real challenge, so government assistance in this area fills a significant need. Funds provided by CIIF will help ensure the Learning Center in Sherwood Park continues to be a safe and attractive environment for everyone."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
