Île-des-Chênes, Manitoba – Today, the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety and Member of Parliament for Provencher, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for Optimist Park under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“Our Government is pleased today to announce its support for so many excellent projects like the Optimist Park in Île-des-Chênes,” said Minister Toews. “Local and surrounding communities will benefit from this project, which will boost economic activity and provide a safe community facility for future generations.”
The Harper Government’s investment of $58,487 will enhance the services provided by Optimist Park in Île-des-Chênes and will create jobs. The Park will upgrade its existing washroom facilities, five baseball diamonds, and renovate the tennis court into a multi-use play space. These renovations will extend the life of the Park by 25 years and ensure that it continues to safely meet the growing needs of the community and the surrounding areas.
“Seine River Minor Ball has been fortunate to have many dedicated individuals who, over the years, have contributed countless hours to make our club and park what they are today,” said Jennifer Woodward, Treasurer. “The funds provided will ensure that we can renovate our facility, making it as comparable to any in the province, benefiting the sport, our communities and all the kids that play here.”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating, small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
