Oakville, Ontario – The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board, today highlighted the Government of Canada’s ambitious plans to cut red tape and support jobs and growth in an address to the Oakville Chamber of Commerce.
“Our Government’s top priorities are jobs, growth, and long-term prosperity for Canadians,” said Minister Clement. “We are focused on supporting Canadian competitiveness and freeing business to do what it does best: innovate, invest, grow, and create jobs.”
To help meet these goals, the Government unveiled its Red Tape Reduction Action Plan last October—one of the most ambitious red tape-cutting exercises in the world today. As part of the Plan, the Government announced three new red tape initiatives in January that will generate about $10 million in annual savings for Canadian businesses.
The Action Plan introduces systemic reforms to the federal regulatory system to cap the size and cost of red tape and improve customer service. The Action Plan includes 90 department-specific changes to eliminate unnecessary paperwork and introduce time-saving measures, such as single windows and electronic submissions.
The Government of Canada, which has instituted significant ongoing annual savings through a strategic review of government operations, also continues to look for ways to support jobs and growth, while returning to balanced budgets before the end of this Parliament.
