Vibank, Saskatchewan
Today, Senator Denise Batters, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for three public facilities in Southeast Saskatchewan under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
Our Government is pleased to announce support for these excellent facilities in Southeast Saskatchewan,
said Senator Batters. Families and communities across the region will benefit from our investments, which will boost economic activity and leave a legacy of modernized and improved infrastructure.
The Harper Government's total investment of $179,620 will enhance the services provided by facilities in Vibank, Sedley and Tyvan. The projects include upgrades to the Vibank Community Heritage Centre to increase its energy efficiency, significant renovations to modernize the Tyvan Community Hall, and repairs to the Sedley arena roof.
The Federal Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund has allowed the Village of Vibank to make necessary improvements to the 90-year-old Vibank Heritage Centre,
said Tracey Schaffer, Mayor of Vibank. With this funding, the centre's function and history can continue for our residents into the future.
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
