Today, Brent Rathgeber, Member of Parliament for Edmonton—St. Albert, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the Fountain Park Recreation Centre and Landrex Water Play Centre under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“Recreational facilities are the heart of communities across this country,
” said MP Rathgeber. “By supporting improvements to local infrastructure, our Government is helping communities create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity.
”
The Harper Government’s investment of $72,065 will support the replacement of chlorine production systems in three pools at the Fountain Park Recreation Centre, as well as one pool in the Landrex Water Play Centre at Servus Place. The installation of new efficient systems will result in higher-quality water for all swimmers and will help to reduce operational costs.
“The City of St. Albert is extremely pleased to receive the Federal Government’s support for our local project through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,
” says Mayor Nolan Crouse. “The new chlorine production systems will improve water quality for the thousands of kids and families who enjoy these aquatic amenities every year. Recreation infrastructure in St. Albert is vital to sustaining a healthy and vibrant community for all residents.
”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
