Swan Hills, Alberta
Today, the Honourable Rob Merrifield, Member of Parliament for Yellowhead, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the Swan Hills Aquatic Centre under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“Recreational facilities are the hubs of activity and action in communities across Canada,” said MP Merrifield. “By making investments in local infrastructure, we are helping Canadians maintain a high quality of life, while creating safe and accessible infrastructure facilities for years to come.”
The Harper Government’s investment of $67,800 supports the resurfacing of the Swan Hills Aquatic Centre’s swimming pool, as well as the replacement of the pool’s border and lane marking tiles. These renovations will improve the recreational experience for all users, while extending the lifespan of this valued community facility.
"It's always a positive when different orders of government can collaborate to enhance the quality of life for its citizens,” said Craig Wilson, Mayor of the Town of Swan Hills. “The opportunity to maintain and enhance the Swan Hills Aquatic Centre will greatly contribute to enhancing the community of Swan Hills."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
