Today, Joy Smith, Member of Parliament for Kildonan—St. Paul, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced additional support for improvements to West St. Paul’s community infrastructure under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“I am proud to see West St. Paul benefit from our Government’s support for community infrastructure,
” said MP Smith. “Through these investments, we are helping to ensure jobs, economic growth and long-term prosperity for this community, and across Canada.
”
Building on recent community infrastructure investments in the RM of West St. Paul, the Harper Government will provide $53,588 in funding for two additional park projects in the community. Of this funding, $46,088 will go towards asphalting the skating rink and improving site drainage at Willis Road Park. The remaining $7,500 will support further upgrades to Moore Road Park including improving drainage and adding top soil and sod to remediate the grounds. These investments will improve park safety and amenities while contributing the continued growth of West St. Paul.
“The Rural Municipality of West St. Paul is grateful for the additional CIIF funding towards our Moore Road Park project, and is also thrilled to receive CIIF funding for Willis Road Park,
” said Bruce Henley, Mayor. “These parks are utilized by local families and friends, and improving them will help build stronger and healthier community relationships into the future.
”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
